This sounds like a fascinating development. I look forward to the public release of this product. I note also that FreeAXP can be used for commercial purposes. All we need now is a "Free for commercial use" OpenVMS Alpha distribution for emulations <= 128mb memory, or at least a low cost one and then we won't have to worry about updating our hobbyist licenses every year.
I am currently using PersonalAlpha which has favourably impressed me and would be interested to know if FreeAXP can be used with the same vdisk container files already established for use with PersonalAlpha, or if the FreeAXP version is technically different thereby requiring its own initial OpenVMS installation.
Another question comes to mind regarding FreeAXP performance. I wonder if there would be any performance differential between a Windows 7 (x32) host vs (x64) given we are emulating a 64bit Alpha hardware environment.
Thanks to the Migration Specialties people for their efforts here.

Yes. Check the FreeAXP Release Notes for issues with the Idle Loop and other PA/Charon features.
>> I wonder if there would be any performance differential between a Windows 7 (x32) host vs (x64)?
FreeAXP will run faster on an x64 host. Also, the speed of the host hardware will have a substantial impact on FreeAXP performance.

Thanks very much for answering my questions about FreeAXP.
I am suitably impressed and look forward to the initial release.
Oops - It appears that a beta version of the product has already been released and I wasn't aware of it until just now.<hr>
