Not enough cores was created by smithfarm
Having established that FreeAXP won't run on my Intel Core 2 Duo Vista laptop except with the idle loop disabled, and it would require the Alpha to be shut down and restarted every time I do a sleep-resume, I'm now trying to run FreeAXP in VirtualBox.

In addition to the Vista laptop, I have an AMD Athlon X2 machine here with Ubuntu 9.04. I'm running VirtualBox 3.1.8 on both machines. The guest OS in both cases is Windows XP S3.

When I attempt to start FreeAXP in VirtualBox on the AMD/Ubuntu box, I get the following error: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." And then it crashes.

When I attempt to start FreeAXP in VirtualBox on the Intel/Vista laptop, I get a different error: "ESL-F-Fail: Emulator Failure: Not enough cores to satisfy claims."

Both the AMD/Ubuntu box and the Intel/Vista laptop are dual core machines. The VMs are single core.

Using PersonalAlpha, I can boot and run the same OpenVMS system just fine, with the idle loop, in the same VM environment on both machines.

As usual, any ideas or explanation of what is going on here will be appreciated.

You need to have VirtualBox configure the Virtual Machine to have 2 CPUs. It is marked as an "Experimental Feature". That is the easy part.
It is a hard requirement of FreeAXP that it uses 2 CPUs.

The part that you will not like to hear is that Windows XP will not recognize the second CPU until you reinstall the OS from scratch.

Unfortunately VMS bugchecks most of the time that I do a resume on my Macbook. Suspending and resuming the VMs do not help.

I also could not get it to work with the current version of the idle loop package. The only people that have reported that the idle loop stuff works, is those posters using a slightly older version.
