Just upgraded to Virtualbox 4.2.6.
As a note, the upgrade of the Virtualbox guest additions was broken in 4.2.4 and is still broken in 4.2.6.
You will need to:
su
sh /opt/vBoxGuestAdditions/uninstall.sh
Before you can install the virtualbox guest additions.
The new Ubuntu UI is a pain to use. I will probably replacing that VM with Scientific Linux in the future.
Still using the emulated drivers on Windows, as there was nothing in the changelog for 4.2.6 that the paravirtualized Windows Drivers were fixed. This makes Windows networking less efficient on Windows virtualbox guests than it should be.

Thanks for this Virtualbox thread; I've been following it with interest.
On a side note, a "more compatible" alternative to Ubuntu is Linux Mint. The Cinnamon UI is much less annoying/buggy, and Mate brings us back to the "old" Gnome interface so many of us know and love. : - )

The choice of Linux is driven by two factors:
1. Something with paravirtualized driver support. When I started this, the Red Hat variants were not well supported and someone at $dayjob recommended Ubuntu, which did have paravirtualization support.
2. $dayjob is now using Scientific Linux quite a bit, so it is a common environment for me.
