Window logs of at night was created by thein
I have been running FreeAXP on Windows 7 for a few days now. At night maybe a about 4:00 am FreeAXP program shuts down and Windows logs of the user. I don´t know if FreeAXP does that or someone is hacking into my computer. I have Windows 7 set up on Oracle Virtualbox. It is quite annoying becuse I have set up a vncserver for DecWindows and evrything has to be restarted in the morning. Does anyone know why this happens?

There is nothing in FreeAXP that would precipitate a Windows shutdown. It sounds like a process is logging off the user account under which FreeAXP was started, which would kill the FreeAXP process. I suggest two tests.

- Leave the system up overnight without FreeAXP running and see if it shuts down.

- Aside from all the virus and malware scanning that can be done, if you suspect a hacker, take the system off the network overnight and see what happens.

Because it's a VM machine. I will just create a new one and see if the same thing happens again. I will use the diskks from the old OpenVMS system. I have scanned them for viruses and everything seems to be ok. There has a lot of time gone in installing the system. Thanks Bruce for answering my post it clears things up.

Several things to look for:

1. Powersave routines in the host or the VM may shutdown the system when it is idle. These are now on by default on Windows 7.

2. By default Windows tries to do everything it can to get you to set the windows update to allow automatic installation and if needed reboot. Sometimes when you install an application it will have a checkbox to "fix" your windows update settings helpfully checked by default.

3. Look for screen savers that can do a logout on idle.

I looked at the security logs and there was process called advapi involved. On the internet some say it's a virus and some say it's a Windows service. I changed to another VM windows 7 yesterday and so far so good. But thanks for your post Malmberg. I'll have that in mind if this continues

Use a "advapi site:microsoft.com" in the search.

According to microsoft.com advapi is an authentication related API that is supplied by Windows.

Which indicate the web hits claiming it to be a virus look like scams that are trying to sell fake security solutions.
