FreeAXP and OpenVMS V8.4 - DK disks offline was created by duartconsulting
Hello,

I have downloaded and installed both V.4.4.537 and V2.6.1.560 of FreeAXP on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 (64bit) and have same issue.

I created containers for the SCSI disks via the MIN utility downloaded from the Migration Specialties website. After starting a basic configuration with several SCSI disks I do see the SCSI disks at the SRM console. I boot the OpenVMS V8.4 distribution CD. Either during an install or when going straight to DCL when I attempt to INIT one of the DK device (they show online) it fails with device offline.

I'm question it has somethinng to do with accessing the container file via the emulator.

Ideas?

I had been trying 300gb disks. Dropped to 4g and have same issue.

Try letting FreeAXP create the 4GB disk instead of using the MIN utility.

I don't visit the forum very often, but saw this and thought I would add my two bits.

I have played with FreeAXP for a while, and also noticed that DK devices often fail to initialize (device offline). Just keep trying; I found that eventually it will succeed (I do not know why). Also, the larger the disk, the more often you have to try. I tried letting FreeAXP create the device, and aside from the time it takes to create the disk, there does not appear to be a difference from MIM-created disks.

As an aside, though VMS8.4 supports 2TB disks, I have not been able to initialize/mount any disks on FreeAXP in excess of 1TB; I am probably missing something. And definitely do not allow FreeAXP to create a drive that large ;-)

Currently on FreeAXP V3.0
