Windows 10/freeAXP networking problems was created by tadamsmar
I have freeAXP 3.0.0.620 installed via freeaspsetup_620a

I want to network from VMS to Windows 10 so I can use XFree. But I have had no luck getting to the point where I can ping VMS from the Window command prompt.

The freeAXP emulator seems to work fine.

I am trying to follow instructions from a coworker who got if working.

I created a Hyper-V Virtual Etherenet Adapter and named it FREEEAXP. He had me set a specific IP address:

address XXX.XX.X.210
subnet 255.255.255.0
gatwway XXX.XXX.X.1

The XXX.XXX.X part is the same as on the VMS emulation.

In my virtual alpha configuration, I have the pci11 Nic interface defined as vEthernet(FREEAXP). pci12 is a dummy. Both NICs are type DE435

The virtual alpha configuration based on the one he sent me. All I did was change it from disk D: to disk C: so it would run on the disk in my PC. And, I re-selected the FREEAXP adapter as part of setting it up.

I can ping XXX.XX.X.210 from the Windows command prompt. But I cannot ping XXX.XX.X.51 which is the network address of the virtual Alpha.

On the virtual Alpha, I can pink it's network address XXX.XX.X.51

My coworker and I stumped, he has tried to help me troubleshoot via email.

I have also tried some other approaches networking and nothing works.

My PC has wireless and wired ethernet. The wired one has no cable since I use wireless to communicate with my house router.

I have also tried some approaches on another Windows 10 box that I have at home and no luck there either. Both these are HP 700 series machines. (I have not tried the HYPER-V approach on the other Windows 10 box)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have a Windows 7 laptop, but I have not experimented freeAXP there,<hr>

I had various issues with networking and FreeAXP that I couldn't pin down.

In the end I run it from a Citrix Xen virtual machine. That way connections are always via ethernet from another machine. That is working for ftp, telnet, decnet etc.

The emulated machine is designed to have a VAX based, diskless clustered node but I have yet to get that working between SIMH and FreeAXP.

Best of luck, Mark.
