bgr,
please also check the previous thread (26-APR-2010), which seems to describe the same kind of problem:
FreeAXP failed to create configuration file on Vista

Howdy all,
Is there a resolution to the 'FreeAXP Configuration Wizard crashing' issue?
It was working for me for a while and now - not so much.
I can delete a configuration and then create a copy without any trouble.

We have been unable to reproduce the issue on a system here, so are unable to diagnose the problem. Do you always see the same error when the wizard crashes?
